The Press Writer Jaryl (J) spoke to Xin Yi (X), chairperson of AEAC, to understand more about the functions of the committee, the events under their purview and find out some of the difficulties that she and her committee faces along the way.
J: Tell us more about the main roles and responsibilities of AEAC.
X: Alumni and External Affairs Committee (AEAC) basically deals with alumni affairs and liaison with external parties. We also organize events for alumni to relive their memories in hall.
In this academic year, we have started to engage current residents to be part of our alumni events, and this serves as an opportunity for them to interact with some of our alumni. With the engagement of current residents in our alumni event, we hope that they too will come back as alumni to join our events someday after they graduate.
J: Well, it seems like AEAC has a rather indispensable role in maintaining alumni relations. Care to share with us some of the events that you guys done/will be executing for this academic year?
X: Activities that we have organized include the NUS Alumni Day, Past VS Present Games, Raffles Hall Photography Competition as well as RHA Bowling Tournament.
As Raffles Hall will be celebrating its 55th Anniversary, AEAC is currently busy planning the 55th Anniversary celebration on 19 February 2014 at Shaw Foundation Alumni House. We will be inviting our alumni back and share their memories of RH. There will also be performances put up by current residents and alumni as part of the celebrations!
Other than these activities, we will also be organizing an alumni tea session and the annual NTU Hall Exchange.
J: What made you take on the responsibility of the AEAC Chairperson, and what were some of the challenges that have encountered since taking on the role?
X: I would say personal experience is the reason for taking up AEAC Chairperson. Being the chairperson of AEAC is definitely a
