EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON
BY: DOMINIQUE RICE

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there. They serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or help figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be; your roommate, your neighbor, professor, long lost friend, lover, or even a complete stranger who when you lock eyes with, you know that they will affect your life in some profound way. Sometimes things happen to you that at the time seem horrible, painful, and unfair, but in reflection you realize that without these obstacles you would have never have realized your potential, strength, and will power of heart. Everything happens for a reason!! Nothing happens by chance or by means of good or bad luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments or true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of the soul. Without these small tests, life would just be like a smooth paved, straight, flat road to nowhere. The people you meet who affect your life, successes, and downfalls you experience, are the ones who create who you are. Even the bad experiences can be learned from, and though they are the hardest, they are also the most to important.
If someone hurts you, betrays you, or even breaks your heart… FORGIVE THEM!! For they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious of who you open your heart. If someone loves you, love them back for unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love and opening your heart and eyes to things you would have never seen or felt without them.
Make every day count!! Appreciate every moment and take from it everything you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen, let yourself fall in love, break free and set your sights high because you can make of your life anything you wish!

Laughter, let downs, memories, and regrets are all aspects of life itself. Explaining these aspects is the hardest part. When is laughter present? When are let downs expected? Where can memories lead? How do these all affect someone in the long run? The poem “Schoolsville” does a great job of representing life itself. It points towards life in general and explains the comical, serious and memorable, then poignant parts of life.…

There’s an old saying by Eleanor Roosevelt that states “You can never really live anyone else's life, not even your child's. The influence you exert is through your own life, and what you've become yourself.” I believe this statement is true. However, what Eleanor Roosevelt fails to mention was who, or what kind of people come into our lives and influence us to change for the better. Do these particular individuals shape our paths, or our futures? Or when these people come into our lives is it meant to happen for a reason? No one knows for sure, but when we meet someone who leaves such a profound effect on our hearts and minds, like foot prints in the sand we remember them forever. Ben Carson always mentions that his mother helped shaped his life, as well as his family, students, teachers, his strong belief in god, and his love for books helped shaped his future. Throughout middle school, high school and college these key influences would lead him to what he has become today.…

Every day we are given a fresh start; another chance to move forward in our lives and accomplish the things we thrive to achieve day to day. A new day can also liberate us from our past mistakes and provide us with a chance to change our ways. We are all faced with misery and misfortune at points in our lives, some more than others. We must recognize that it is not the burden in itself that shapes who we are, but how well or how poorly we deal with the difficulties. Sometimes misfortunes can be seen in a negative light; because it seems unjust, therefore we response in a negative matter, and become negligent to change. Overcoming tragic events is what truly counts, for we are meant to live happily and in acceptance that there are things that we cannot change. In many cases, individuals seem to feel as though they’ve lost an amount so great that they are unable to free themselves of the pain. This perspective often leads to further suffering. A Temporary Matter by Jhumpa Lahou and Kiss Me by Andrew Pyper demonstrate a loss of identity, negligence towards communication, and eventually leading to the destruction of a relationship.…

When the door of happiness closes, another opens. But often times, we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one which has been opened for us. I guess you could say that the mistakes that I make are my fault. And, I should take on the responsibility of the consequences of my actions. It seems that everyone wants to blame everyone else for their problems. They end up in trouble with the law, or with drugs, or financial debt, and then they want to blame everyone else but themselves. People don’t want to take a look at whom they are associated with and wonder how they got themselves into the messes they have made with their lives. I guess you could say that I use to be one of those people. Not the person you wouldn’t want to be around, but the person who never thought other people around me could cause such troubles and bad choices.…
