Firstly, the book of Genesis states that God created the land in one place and the sea in another: “And God said, ‘Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.’ And it was so” (Genesis 1:5, NIV). Secondly, creationists reason that the Flood of Genesis was the cause of Pangea’s breakup. In the biblical account, it states that the floodgates of the deep broke open. “This giant crack set in motion ‘runway’ movements of the continental pieces at breakneck speed” (Upchurch). Evidence for the Flood is found in the Grand Canyon. Contrary to evolutionists’ view that the Canyon was formed over millions of years of erosion, no erosion is visible in the layers and marine fossils were uncovered from every single layer. “Under the floodwaters, plates pulled apart, slipped by each other, and rammed into each other, forming mountains” (Upchurch). On the other hand, evolutionists believe that the tectonic plates of the earth have been moving apart for billions of years, slowly splitting Pangea into smaller sections. “It started in earnest with the breakup of one large continent called Rodinia” (Upchurch). As mentioned earlier, it is a part of the theory of continental drift, where the continents drift two-point-five centimeters away from each other per year …show more content…
This provokes scientists with the question: where did all of these species come from? Creation and evolution both present an answer to this question. The origin of species is the fourth point to compare and contrast from these two groups. Evolutionists believe that all living organisms “are all related to a common ancestor that lived billions of years ago and through the process of mutation, genetic variation, and natural selection” (Is Genesis History?). The word evolution means “a change over time”, and evolutionists speculate that “enough change over time can lead to the common ancestry of all species on earth” (Is Genesis History?). This brings up the concepts of micro-evolution and macro-evolution. Micro-evolution is “a gradual change within a kind of animal: for example, over several generations of dogs” (Strobel 30), while macro-evolution is an animal gradually changing from one species to another: for example, from a fish to a bird. Evolutionists believe that macro-evolution is the cause of all the varieties of species we have today. Despite of this, there is no evidence of this change in the fossil record. Evolutionists state that life spontaneously occurred without the interference of an intelligent being. In contrast, creationists believe that God created all living creatures in a short period of time, in their completely developed
