Of the 42,000 traffic deaths in the United States in 1999, about 38 percent were related to alcohol. Drivers who can pass roadside sobriety tests -- they can touch their noses or walk a straight line -- still might be breaking the legal limit for blood alcohol and be a hazard on the road. So police officers use some of the latest technology to detect alcohol levels in suspected drunken drivers and remove them from the streets. Many officers in the field rely on breath alcohol testing devices (Breathalyzer is one type) to determine the blood alcohol concentration, referred to as BAC, in drunken-driving suspects. Positioning
The product will be positioned as a life saving device that any organization that serves alcohol or marijuana should install, (possibly lowering insurance rates). Offering users a service who opt in to the program, a safe way to have a good time yet remain responsible members of society. By positioning the device as an opt in service that offers patrons a way to continue to purchase alcohol even if they know they are getting drunk beyond the legal limit, bar owners are more likely to accept the idea, opposed to installing a device that could possibly lower sales due to legal ramifications. According to an article in The Tampa Tribune by Thurston,
