WORKFLOW DIAGRAM
Dorothy has been experiencing constant headaches and fatigue. She decides it is time to visit her doctor, and she contacts her doctor's office and schedules an appointment for the following day.
1. Dorothy calls her doctor’s office and requests a next day appointment.
2. That night the medical office computer verifies her insurance eligibility as well as for all the next day’s appointments.
3. When Dorothy arrives at her doctor’s office the office staff asks her to confirm her demographic information.
4. Using a computer in a private area, Dorothy completes a medical history as well as explains her reason for her visit.
5. Once the questionnaire is complete the nurse takes Dorothy back to the exam room where her vitals such as height, weight, heart rate, and blood pressure will be taken.
6. Subjective; once the nurse is done recording Dorothy’s vitals she will go over Dorothy’s patient entered information and make any necessary revisions. After which the physician will enter the exam room and reviews the patients chart.
7. Objective; the doctor will briefly talk with Dorothy about her concerns and symptoms either before or while completing the physical exam. The EHR can then present a list of problems the patient has reported in the past and can go through the list and mark off what has been resolved, what hasn’t, and what conditions are worsening. This information helps the doctor arrive at a diagnosis.
8. Plan Of treatment; Based on Dorothy’s symptoms, PMH, and vitals the doctor concludes that some labs are needed to rule out causes of her fatigue and chronic headaches. He also prescribes Dorothy a headache medication. The prescription is sent electronically to her pharmacy. At the conclusion of the visit the doctor completes his exam notes and
