Whereas, cultures like Iran and India are past oriented. In my future career, I would consider that different cultures see the past or the future as part of their present. In regards to formality, I tend to follow formal communications and rules with clients and colleagues in a formal setting. This might be the case in most European professions. Whereas, in Mediterranean countries informality is seen in most professions. In my future career, I would consider that different cultures follow informality. When I think of people with disabilities, the first thing that comes to my mind is that they face obstacles in society.
I think that most people view disable person as being alone, isolated, different, physically or emotionally different than a typical person. Disable person face discrimination that would reinforce the isolation. Ethically speaking, I categorize disable person as any other human being that has the right to live and practice their life without being labeled as 'different'. What really surprise me is when I see ignorant people discriminate or dehumanize people with special needs. As a therapist instructor, I would consider ethical codes and cultural differences. By considering ethical codes in my profession, the mission of the organization I work at would be effectively guided through prohibition of inappropriate behaviors, improve relationships with clients and workers ... By considering cultural differences in my profession, the diversity of clients would be appreciated and accepted. After all, in my practice or service I offer to clients, I need to be cognizant about different values and beliefs of different cultures. In conclusion, knowing that I will be working with people with autism, I should be aware of my personal values because these individuals have issues with social interaction skills and verbal and non-verbal communications. Therefore, they won't understand that I hold different personal values from theirs. I need to be cognizant of practicing some of my personal values with people with autism and always remember that I am dealing with a developmental disorder person.
