Another example of destructive love is in My Last Duchess. In this poem the reader sees how the Duke tries to deal with jealousy and unfaithfulness in his relationship. Another way to see this is when the Duke shows his disapproval when his duchess would smile at every other man. In this poem the Duke wants her attention and beauty for himself.
This is shown by the Duke giving his duchess commands
to stop looking at other men. The more she smiled at other men the more it caused rage, selfishness, frustration, and jealousy. As this continues the Duke tries more and more to catch her attention. When all his tries fail he then ends up killing her, causing him to refer to her as his last duchess.
