My friend Kylie and I were walking down the street in my neighborhood when we heard someone calling our names. It was Kylie's younger sister. We turned to each other and said,
“What does she want now?” Turns out she found two baby kittens in a thorn bush. They were like little puff balls. They were so small and thin you could see their ribs. We couldn't quite get to them, so we decided to look around to see if there was a mom anywhere near. There was not, so we tried
to go near the kittens, but they began hissing at us. We were scared, but still managed to get them out without getting bit or getting too many scratches. We were wondering “What are we going to do with them?” Kylie and I ran back to my house with the kittens on our arms. As we were running, Kylie said, “We can't take them into the house, you have dogs!” We were both scared to find out what my mom was going to say about this. Kylie and I knocked on the door because if we went in, the dogs would scare the kittens. It took a while for my mom to get the door because she was still on crutches from her surgery. When she opened the door, we showed her the kittens, and she fell in love with them. We got to take them in once our dogs were upstairs because my mom did not want to put them back outside. We named one of them Midnight because she was all black and the other one, Jaz, was striped. Later we found two more and named one Rio, because he was all black, and the other one Belle, because she was striped. In the end we kept Midnight. She has grown into a beautiful black panther. I absolutely adore her. This experience gave me a kitten and changed the way I look at animals and people. I want to be a vet even more than I did before. It also led me to volunteering at an animal shelter called Paws and Prayers. I have been volunteering for Paws and Prayers for over one year now and have rescued twenty cats and kittens. I still adore going to pet supplies plus on the second and last Saturdays of the month. I love hanging out with all the animals and selling nice dog beds for cheap. One of my favorite things to do is go see them. I especially love seeing Dolly. She is a three year old pit bull and as sweet as can be. I realized there are a lot of people out there who don’t care what happens to pets after they get them. I want to try and help these animals out more, so we opened a cat cage at Pet Supplies Plus. This allowed more people to come and see them. Most people get pets before they know what they are getting into. One of the cats, Jillian, got returned, just because she meows, which almost every cat does. I absolutely love going to see them. The people who work there are extremely nice, and want to help pets just as much as I do.
