The ideals, or guidelines as he called them, that John Africa established when he first made MOVE are what the members try and uphold today, but are not what they all abide by. The love of nature is strongly believed to hold all life and that whatever tries to hurt or kill nature is also trying to kill all life. “All living beings, things that move, are equally important, whether they are human beings, dogs, birds, fish, trees, ants, weeds, rivers, wind or rain” (John Africa). All life is sacred: human, animal, plant, and even the earth itself. The rats and bugs that their feces attracts are even held with the same amount as a human’s life. Violence and the taking of life that should only happen in self-defense. The children are very precious and are to be protected from the system. To stop them from being brainwashed, the children do not go to school and are taught at home by everyone the same guidelines that they were told as children. They wear as little clothing as possible so not to corrupt them. They also refuse to use any technology of any sort. They say that all technology is an abomination against nature. The members of MOVE see themselves as revolutionaries that are fighting the big corporations and the corrupted system that it has created. The members do not go by what the system says is right or wrong, but what they believe is right in their soul.
