The Roles and Stereotypes of Gender Through Media
The media is one of the main sources that promotes gender roles and stereotypes. They have done this through many advertisements such as commercials and posters. This occurs with the knowledge that it will be viewed by millions of people everyday. In earlier times, the media promoted that women are only good for maintaining the household and now it is about them only being good for sex.

It is sad that many women do get judged if they do not look a certain way. The fact that this woman wants to kill herself due to a bad hair day is sending many girls the wrong message, especially young girls. They are in the stage of trying to fit in and this just sets the role of what women are supposed to look like. It is also showing that suicide is okay for such a small reason like this.
Although most of these advertisements are from the 1940s, there are still many gender biased advertisements being created and shown to this day. This is something that is rarely noticed by many people. The reason is because it has become more hidden. It has become harder for society to notice the indirects; therefore it is not seen as such a big issue as it was back then when the statements were direct. As a 15 year old, he influenced many young men. By making this video, he provided young men with many myths and unrealistic events. Another example would be the music video “No Air” by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. This video shows women that they cannot live without having a man in their lives. Jordin Sparks compares living without a man to living without air. She also tells the man, how does he expect her to live without him. It is absurd that a woman should have to feel like this. It makes it seem as if men are vital to our lives. It degrades women and makes them look dependant and shows that nothing is possible without a man, which is not the case at all. Women should be able to take care and provide for themselves. The media has changed dramatically over time. However, the roles of gender it provides has not. It is important to see that this occurs everywhere and it is important to change it. These things are giving young children and even adults the wrong idea of what a man and woman should be. It is also giving them wrong morals. The media plays a major part in our society and the people on there have become our role models. These are the people society looks up to. It is important to begin doing something good by this, instead of enforcing the wrong
