the explosives inside the Earth restarted the core’s rotation. This is an example of bad science because it also goes against conservation of angular momentum. A change in angular momentum only happens when a torque is applied, but an explosion inside the Earth would not cause/create a torque. The last example of bad science was when the birds flew into the glass and broke it. This was an example of bad science because it did not make sense in relation to momentum. The birds do not have enough mass or speed to have enough momentum to break glass. One example of good science in the movie was when the magma was falling when they were moving through the inside of the Earth. This was good science because it coincides with projectile motion and free fall. The magma appropriately exhibited free fall due to gravity since it fell down towards Earth’s core. Another example of good science in the movie was when they utilized anomalies in waves to surmise Earth’s fundamental architecture. This was good science because they stated that as sound waves travel through more dense material, they gain wavelength and lose frequency. Lastly, another example of good science was their representation and explanation of the interior of the Earth. This is good science because it was correct and accurate. They stated that the outer core is liquid that surrounds the inner core, and they stated that the inner core is a solid chunk of iron.
Overall, “The Core” exhibited both good and bad science, both explained here.
