Examples Of Naturalistic Observation Of Playground
During this naturalistic observation I observed the children at the park in my apartment complex. In order to conduct this observation I observed the situation from my apartment which overlooks the playground. This park is incredibly small with only a tiny playground with a slide, and a swing set. Those present during my hour of observation were three girls, two who looked like sister and the third being a friend from the complex. Would assume their ages ranged from 6-12 the oldest and youngest looked related. During the entire observation there was no parent supervision from any of the girl’s parents. Allowing the children to act freely without an adult or authority figure to restrict their behaviors and actions. While at the park the girls mostly sat on the playground talking instead of actually playing on the playground. However, they would occasionally go to the swings which would leave the youngest looking girl alone on the playground to watch them swing. This form of behavior could make the youngest girl feel isolated or ignored which could lead to negative feelings. While left alone it was obvious the girl that was left out was visually upset just alternating between staring at the girls swinging and the ground. These behaviors that isolate the youngest girl while done unconsciously by the other girls can potentially make …show more content…
During most of the observation she was mostly off to the side rarely interacting with the other two girls mainly talking and being ignored. She would often slide down the slide by herself and play with the dolls she had brought her self. While her interaction with the other girls was limited, this was probably due to their age gap making it hard for them to have things in common. Although she was left mostly by herself it was obvious she was still having fun, with her time without parental

Although the area was relatively safe, and many parents in the area allow children to play together outside in the streets without adult supervision, this level of independence could be a sign that this girl was home alone, or that no one was noticing that she was missing. However, I know why my manager spoke to her about our policy, had anything happened to her while she was in the library then we would have been liable. Nevertheless, the girl cycled away from the library alone, and I feel like someone should have been contacted before this…

Children do not learn in the same way as each other ‘they each have their own preferred ways of learning’ (E100, Study Topic 3, p.64). There are many theories relating to how children learn and develop, some coming from Government frameworks but many originate from an individual’s own ideas or beliefs. One of which being Rudolph Steiner, ‘whose principles emphasise the importance of unstructured play and the role of the teacher, who ‘works’ at activities as a model for children (E100, Study Topic 3, p.56)’, this type of unstructured play is evident in the video in that the outside area offered a free play environment where the children can chose to part take in any activity of their choice, either the role play area or the playground. The adult ‘worked’ at the activity when she joined the table offering support and extending the children’s learning through asking questions that required the children to engage further in conversation, developing their communication skills.…

Sky Barragan, daughter of a good friend of mine is the child I observed for this written evaluation. Sky is four years old with a birthday quickly approaching this upcoming July. The observation took place at a local park in Pasadena that Sky frequents quite regularly for play time. We arrived at the park at approximately nine fifty in the morning and left the park at ten thirty. The park is about five acres and located in a quiet neighborhood of Pasadena, CA. It has a playground, basketball courts, handball courts, and plenty of open grass and trees which make for a calm and peaceful setting. The park was fairly empty with a few adults engaging in morning fitness activities, and the playground was empty. The temperature outside was about ninety…

The observed child is given a pseudonym in order to remain anonymous. She will be addressed as Lizzy in this paper. Lizzy is a 9 years old child who is part of a typical, traditional middle-class family I visited her while she was conversing with her best friend. She has no prior knowledge of me. Some degree of deception is involved in this observation as I lied about what I will observe; I said I will observe her house, not her actions. The deception was a critical effort to keep the results accurate. I feared she will act differently if she knew I was observing her. Afterall, all deception was undone after the observation, and I asked for her asent again. I informed Lizzy’s parents prior to the observation without any deception, and they provided parental consents. Lizzy was the only person deceived during the observation, and Lizzy’s friend and cousin were unaware of my observation. They were not informed since they were not being observed. Moreover, the observation highlights two domains of development: physical and social.…

Today many public schools have pre-kindergarten programs. The children in these programs come from different experiences, backgrounds, and all have different needs. Pre-kindergarten programs give children an advantage to learning prior to kindergarten. I performed my second filed observation at Pinkston Street Elementary School in Henderson, NC. The elementary school is in a rural county and this school has lots of diversity in which there are African-American, Caucasian, and Mexican students. The classroom that I observed is one of four pre-kindergarten classrooms in the school. The elementary school is also one of three of the schools in the county to require…

On November 6th, I observed a four year-old boy at the UCI Early Childhood Education Center. My observation starts at 4:10pm, and it lasts for thirty minutes. At the time I did the observation, all of the children woke up from the nap time and started to play outside of the classroom. The playground is at least seventy-five square feet, and it has many play stations for children. Three classrooms share the same outside playground, and the age groups of those children are from three years old to five years old. All of the children could access to the outside playground through the back door in their classrooms. From the left side of the playground, there is a basketball stand next to the tree, then moving toward to the right, there is a lawn in the central of the playground. On the grass, there is a big…

Allowing a child to explore its environment, helps to give the child confidence, and encourages self awareness. We can gauge a child’s level of development by providing activities for the child to take part in as well as free play to watch their social and communicative skills. Children should be allowed to learn from mistakes and encouraged to interact with both other children and adults.…
