It was during my presentation class and a classmate discussing on doctor-assisted suicide (it should be legal). He started his speech about talking about his grandfather who was suffering from stage 4 lung cancer; he discussed how his grandfather was once fully of energy and now he was slowly dying. He hated to see him in so much pain and didn’t want him to suffer no more. It was a persuasive policy speech and he brought up the points of how a terminally ill should have the right to die under their own terms. The question of value was “How much does it cost to maintain such a person in a hospital or nursing home for one month?” which was around $2200 a month and his grandfather pension barely was covering the cost. He also discussed the five states that now are doctor assisted suicide (Oregon, Vermont, Montana, Washington and New Mexico) as his way of change in attitude. He touched on the policy of doctor assisted suicide, how it affects family relationships, interaction between doctors and patients, and ideas of basic ethical behavior. He also provided facts in his speech about doctor assisted suicide in which Oregon, Washington, and Montana have legalized the practice of physician assisted suicide, and in 2013, Vermont declared that suicide with prescribed medications was a legal “medical treatment.” Doctor-assisted suicide is a very emotional subject and he did an excellent job with his
