Prejudice exists today because of society and the influences people have. People who believe that they are being judged negatively or who are treated as inferior may have difficulty performing to the best of their abilities. According to “prejudice in society” “approximately 1 in every 25 people is a victim to cast discrimination, that means that 250-300 million people in india alone are victim to caste discrimination”. This evidence means that 300 million people are being discriminated against because of system that they were born into and that they cant change. According to …show more content…
“Khan Academy” “an average African American woman in sales, make 167 less dollars per week than an average White woman”. This evidence means that the average White woman makes a tremendous amount more than the average African American woman, how is this fair to these people when they were born that way. Everyone that works in the same area should be receiving the same amount as the other races. If society cant change then discrimination will continue and may never end.
Prejudice exists today because of history and past influences.
People are influenced by what has already happened in history and sadly 20 rouge muslims made a whole lot of people's lives a lot harder. According to NBC News “anti muslim hate crimes are approximately five times more frequent than they were before 2001 according to the FBI”. This shows that muslim hate crimes became more frequent after 9/11 even though most muslims agree that what happened on 9/11 was extremely wrong and, that they didn't want that to represent them. According to goodtherapy.org, “women were not given the right to vote until 1920 when the 19th constitutional amendment was ratified”. This shows that for 144 years women were not given the right to vote, and even today some men think that women should not vote because, well there women. History and past influences have probably made huge differences in your lives, 9/11 sadly will always be associated with muslims only because radical crazy muslims killed almost 3000
people.
Prejudice exists today because of the media. The media has many holes, especially while they report stories, they keep information from the people in turn making them bias. According to the atlantic “seventy five percent of respondents say that there's a lot of discrimination against muslims in the us and 68% of muslims believe that media coverage about muslims is unfair”. This say that the media is losing credibility and that they are not nearly as reliable as they were before. According to the washington post “Seventy seven percent of those surveyed by the pew research center in the fall said that media coverage tend to favor one side compared with 53 percent in 1985”. This shows that the media is unreliable and that people are starting to believe the media is becoming bias even though that's the media's number one rule. The media needs to start realizing that they are bias and fix it for the better so those statistics drop dramatically.
Prejudice is a problem that is probably never going to be fixed. It’s like world peace in some ways. The least people can do is know when they are being bias and slowly, over time realize it quicker. These examples are only some of the many examples of prejudice out there today. Prejudice is out there people just need to realize it.
