Examples Of Racial Discrimination In Fences

Racial discrimination. These two words may not sound like a big deal, but it's a topic that has been lingering around the world for many centuries. Not only does it affect African Americans, but many others as well. Many people can consider themselves racist because they discriminate others based on their their sex, religion, skin color, or just by the way they look. These racist acts tie in deeply with a play named Fences. The play Fences by August Wilson, takes place during the late 1950’s through to 1965, a period of time when the fight against segregation was expanding. The main character, Troy Maxson, had been dealing with racial discrimination his whole life, due to this his futuristic dreams were forced to be set aside and not able to be reached. Throughout his fight against racism not only did he end up taking his son, Cory’s, dreams away but he caused a huge traumatic separation throughout the entire Maxson family. I believe that no individual on earth should be held at fault for their race, sex , and other uncontrollable factors that they are born with.
Examples such as the Holocaust, the incident with Rosa Parks getting kicked out her her seat on the bus, Martin Luther King's fights for black rights and his assassination, and many more. There are still world race issues but luckily, the act of being racist has died down. Various amounts of innocent, colored people, are limited in the ways they can attain their goals in life. Not only adults, but even kids were, and in some places are, not accepted or allowed to do certain things because of their color and other factors. Whether it was being cut from a sports team, not having many friends, or not allowed in different places, they never had the ability to reach the goals they set for their lifetime.
