Examples Of Sociological Imagination

Sociological imagination is considering all influences on any given situation to get a better understanding. It is relating personal problems or experiences to previous events in history. It is putting together pieces of a puzzle starting with past experiences and relating it to the personal problem of the present. In my opinion, sociological imagination is the ability to predict your own future of the future of someone else when taking past experience into account. The most obvious example that comes to mind would be the current black lives matter issue. African American people have been victimized all the way back to slavery and since then there have been numerous other occasions since that time that would cause African Americans to feel wronged from police brutality to shootings. If you look back through history there are many examples of times and evens that have led to the black lives matter becoming such a big movement. The same is true for the LGBT society they have been forbidden to be married, as well as even adopt children, and
There are 28 known gang affiliations in the Syracuse region and undoubtedly there are children raised in that sort of environment. When using sociological imagination, you can see that these children wouldn’t feel safe walking the streets unarmed. Also, the children would feel the need to have a way to protect themselves after spending their childhood seeing the violence and being surrounded with people carrying weapons with such carelessness. These children are probably target as much as their parents or families may be and to carry a weapon is a part of everyday life in that scene. Also, not just children related to gang members the rest of the community has to live in fear of being “caught in the cross fire.” And if other children their age are carrying weapons then they will feel the need even if only to “fit
