Confrontation which is the acknowledging a stressful situation directly and attempting to find a solution to the problem. An example would be me having to work long hours and also attend school full time. The long hours have taken a toll on my body and also on my grades at school. Although I need the money I have decided to no longer work long hours so that I could get enough rest and also improve on my grades.
Compromise: is deciding on a more realistic solution or goal when an ideal solution or goal is not practical. An example would be having to work 9 hours 6 days a week and also going to school full time, which is causing a toll on my relationship as I have no time
for my girlfriend. Stopping school or leaving the job to spend more time with her is not practical so we came to a solution that since I am not able to see her as often that we could skype everyday even if it’s for a few minutes.
Withdrawal: is avoiding a situation when other forms of coping are not practical. An example would be me being belittled by my manager which led to an altercation. I am not one who like altercations, so ever since I tend to avoid getting myself into situations that calls for any altercation.
An example of the Major ways of coping defensively are:
Denial which is the refusal to acknowledge a painful or threatening reality. An example would have been me losing my mother. I had not acknowledged the fact that she had died until the day of the funeral.
Repression: which is excluding uncomfortable thoughts, feelings and desires from consciousness. An example would be my mother’s death as I have not thought about it ever since and even when it comes to mind I dismiss it.
