To help rectify this problem a health fair is essential, not only will it interest people but also educate them. Two professions that can work together are a physical education teacher and a nutritionist. The two professions go hand in hand especially with childhood obesity, it is something that requires healthy eating and adequate amounts of exercise which both professions can educate the community on. A nutritionist is someone who is an expert in nutrition, they can educate people in the neighborhood about essential vitamins and nutrients they need to sustain a healthy lifestyle even with the limited amount of food options. On the other hand, a physical education teacher is another core aspect to stopping childhood obesity in the Englewood community, a physical education teacher has a major responsibility in schools which is to ensure students get daily physical activity. Due to the limited amounts of safe areas in Englewood, children can’t go outside and participate in physical activity. A physical education teacher can provide parents and students with physical activities they can do …show more content…
Rather than having a presentation on all of the health problems in the community an interactive presentation to get people involved will be used. The goal of the fair is to educate the community on their diet and obesity and how it effects their long term health. The nutritionist part of the fair can involve a game where parents and children have to sort food depending on if it is a grain, protein, fruit, dairy, or an unhealthy food. This activity will help them identify what foods are essential to their diets. They can also have a station that lays out what foods they should eat even if they do go to a convince store or fast food restaurant, they can provide a healthier alternative meal. The physical education teacher can provide quick exercises at the fair like stretching and jumping rope then describe to people how that contributes to their health. The physical educator can also provide an outline of different exercises people can do everyday even if it’s at home to help reduce obesity. Together these two professions can help the community and provide insight of the possible risk of unhealthy life

When it comes to raising a child, families fall into the category of either emphasizing concerted cultivation or accomplishment of natural growth. In Annette Lareau’s first chapter of, “Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race, and Family Life,” she talks a bit about the different families she researched and the various methods the parents are categorizing in about raising their child. Through her observations of these families, she noticed middle-class families practice a particular parenting style known as concerted cultivation, where the parents believe they must promote the growth and development of their child’s abilities and skills. These types of parents often push their kids to join a variety of activities and are very active in their child’s…

In today’s modern society, the importance of physical activity in a child’s development needs to be recognised and promoted. It is important that teachers and parents encourage and facilitate students to participate in programs which enable them to be both physically and mentally active. In “Extra large, Please,” Alice M. Davies focuses on the increase of obesity with children, which schools are provoking. There are many various social problems in kids of America today ranging from poverty to drug abuse. One alarming factor that is rapidly exploding is childhood obesity. Alice Davies’ article, “‘Extra Large,’ Please,” which describe the alarming social problem of childhood obesity connected to the fast food industry in America today. Davies stated: “the number of American kids who are dangerously overweight has tripled. More than 16 percent of our children qualify as ‘obese’” (Davies). Although childhood obesity is a growing problem stemming from a terrible diet and lack of exercise, we can take action now to avoid further detriment towards their future health. The first cause of childhood obesity is the lack of inactivity. Many schools are not required to have any physical education. Unfortunately, Davies’ states: “Many of those schools are so short of money they’ve scrapped physical-fitness classes” and “too few communities have athletic programs in place.” It is terrible that schools have a hand in this growing epidemic. Also, Spurlock’s Supersize Me documentary shows that “schools are cutting out recess to study for testing and only one state requires physical-fitness classes.” It is terrible that most of these children taking exams are obese. In addition, they live in a dangerous neighborhood where they can’t go out and play because drug activity and violent crime may make playing outside dangerous. Communities should take part in making the neighborhood a safe haven for kids to play outside. The second cause of childhood obesity is poor eating habits. Children will rather eat candy instead of focusing on the products that are good for the body. Parents play a major role when it comes to allowing or giving their child food that will damage the body more less providing nutrients. Children need to leave the junk food behind…

Rising rates of childhood obesity threaten the economic and fiscal health of the nation. Childhood obesity rates have more than tripled since 1980 and almost one-third of children over 2 years or age, are already considered overweight and obese. The fundamental reason children suffer from obesity is because the imbalance of calories consumed and calories expended on physical activity. Simultaneous television & video time, advertisement of fast food and poor eating habits, and lack of parental control equals childhood obesity are all validating risk factors for alarmingly high rising health care costs, as well as sociological and physiological development issues in our youth. However, with the development of nutrition and health related programs at home, school, and in our community; we as a community, parents, educators, can get our children back on the right track.…
