Dahl, builds a sense of foreboding in this story about a man named Billy on an innocent business trip and an old Landlady running a "Bed & Breakfast". The story in the beginning makes the Landlady seem creepy, but the story also makes the Landlady seem so nice. Through out the story she drops hints about how scary she really is. At the end of the story it all comes together, and we realized that this lady truly isn't harmless.…

To most, torture is seen as action with a single definition that defines it, but in fact there are different types of torture that Henry Shue discusses in one of his articles. According to Shue there are rare conditions under which torture could be morally justified, but he does not endorse neither the interrogational torture not the terroristic torture. Although Shue agrees with illegality and morally wrongness of torture, he explains how one may go about defending torture and how it could possibly be morally justified.…

This one was harder for me to actually see in my life, but after some contemplating I finally realized it is perfect when concerning my personal relationships. I am always trying to help others, no matter the cost to myself. No matter what it is someone needs help with (homework, relationship advice, etc…) I am always willing to help. I would rather have others benefit over something than myself. I believe that this is one reason I am supposed to become a teacher. After all, what better way is there to help children than to teach them? Humanity needs to believe in themselves and each other more in order to achieve anything. I will always believe anyone can achieve anything they put their mind to; more people need to have this…

Integrity, respect, and a drive to make the world and people around you are essential parts as well. One of my favorite quotes is “Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity.” - W. Clement Stone. I try to apply this quote to my life daily. Doing what is right, and facing things that scare you for the greater good are two things that I focus on. Respecting others is a silent way of showing value for others. By listening and encouraging others to share their thoughts, you honor their personal rights. Having a drive to make everything around you better is one of the most important qualities to me. I attempt to help the environment better by volunteering in trash cleanups, reducing my plastic use, and by being vegetarian. I help the people around me by sharing opportunities, explaining hard topics, and by supporting others in their endeavors. I make an effort to be the total student for myself, my peers, and my community. I should be considered for Minnesota Honor Society because I meet, and exceed the qualifications of a member. Thank you for this amazing…

In order to live day by day, I simply follow five core values that make me the person I am today. The five core values that I live by are: family, education, honesty, responsibility, and open-minded. Core values are important to live by because they are what makes a person and it is important to see someone’s characteristics of what they value. According to dictionary.com, the definition of value is “the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something” (dictionary.com, 2016). Like the definition states, values are something of importance and each individual cherishes different values, which they find important and what fits their lives in the best way. My family are the one’s who…

The three of these core values are a significant role in my future. Being educated is a key aspect which is valued in today’s world. Without education, employment would not be possible for specific occupations. With the education I will be able to apply my knowledge to better the lives of people around me. I am self-motivated which is why ambition is my second core value. Being dedicated to become a financial advisor, I will perform my greatest work. Great work would require efficiency. Efficient in terms of being a financial advisor would mean being productive without wasting any time or expenses. Education, ambition, and efficiency are three core values that I consider in my day to day life when…
