Course Description
The course is designed for students who will work in the fields related to Health Promotion or Exercise and Wellness in clinical, governmental, corporate, schools, or other settings. Students will gain a foundational understanding of the history, concepts, theories, and professional issues underlying these fields of study.
A hybrid class indicates that the course meets part time in person, and students are responsible for completing work online each week.
Course Objectives
Knowledge Goals
Identify and define key terms and concepts underlying the professions of health, wellness, and fitness promotion.
Explain various models of health and wellness.
Identify and explain a variety of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual factors that influence health and well-being.
Identify basic concepts related to the fundamental sciences and theories underlying the practice of health, wellness, and fitness promotion.
Identify various philosophical approaches to health, wellness, and fitness promotion.
Identify the major agencies, professional organizations, and certifications related to careers in health, wellness, and fitness.
Identify the underlying concepts associated with ethical professional practice in health, wellness, and fitness promotion.
Critical Thinking Goals:
Use appropriate professional article databases and criteria to find scholarly, peer-reviewed professional source material.
Use appropriate internet sites (government, agency, etc) and criteria to find scholarly, peer-reviewed professional source material.
