When a reaction take place, the energy started to transfer from different object to the surroundings or take away energy from the surroundings. When temperature started to change.
Exothermic Reaction
An exothermic reaction is a chemical reaction that produces heat to the surroundings. When a reaction use heat and let the the surroundings cooling down , it is opposite of exothermic, so it is called endothermic. Exothermic reactions occur frequently in our daily life. The most common …show more content…
example in real life is the combustion. Complete combustion of methane take place when the hydrocarbon burns in an excess of air. It is means that in the air , there is enough oxygen to cause all of the carbon turn into carbon dioxide (gcsescience). The heat will release when burn the natural gas. It is use for heating system and electricity. The chemical equation for the complete combustion of methane is : ethane + oxygen carbon dioxide + water + energy
2C2H6 + 7O2 4CO2+ 6H2O (methane gas burns will have blue flame )
There are also some other example for the exothermic reaction , for example, neutralisation reactions , reaction of metals with acids and the water added into the calcium oxide.
It is important to our life because heat is important for human to keep warm and make use the enzymes in our body do not denatured. It is also important for chemical reactions , such as we can apply energy (heat ) to molecules in the reaction to make it happened quickly.
Endothermic Reaction
An endothermic reaction is a chemical reaction that absorb heat to the surroundings. If an endothermic reaction occurs , the temperature will falling down. The energy is transfer as heat ,it will cause the mixture of reaction and its surroundings to get colder. The common example for endothermic is the photosynthesis.Generally the sunlight provides the energy so the plants to make their food. In plant the chlorophyll is used as a catalyst that allows plants to make sugar (glucose) from carbon dioxide in the air. The energy is comes from sunlight. The chemical equation for the photosynthesis is
:
water + carbon dioxide glucose + oxygen.
6H2O(l) + 6CO2(g) C6H12O6(aq) + 6O2(g)
There are some other example of endothermic reaction ,such as , thermal decomposition , Melting, boiling and evaporation are all endothermic processes.Melting, boiling and evaporation it is not chemical reactions , but it is the physics reaction. Exothermic and endothermic reaction change can help us to change the temperature around us. These two reaction provide us lots of useful functions. They are use to cook our food, heat our water and fridges.
