It helps children expand their imagination and takes children to a world of dream and fairy tale which advances children visualisation skills through the use of actions. Since it is easy for children to repeat the rhyme hence it become some of a child’s first sentences. Repetition is good for children as it helps children to speak and learn new words which enhances their vocabulary but at the same time boring for them and the adults who is singing to them. Children learn to measure ingredients using scales, measuring jugs, spoon and words like less, big, full, more, fluffy and develop concept such as hot and cold, melting, dissolving, mixing, temperature which are the stepping stones towards mathematical language. Children intolerance and allergies to be considered at all times, to avoid any health risk.
The practitioner in the nursery environment uses the Chomsky’s theory of Language Acquisition Device (LAD) and communicate and immerse children in the language at all occasion to activate this innate language learning ability and which as a result children listen speech and language in all aspects of interactions and they enhance proper grammatical composition of their particular language. LAD theory does not take sufficient account of the influence that idea and language have on each others development as children with down syndrome has speech delays.
