Idetify transitions that only some children and young people experience.
All children go through transitions. However there are some transitions in which only some children and young people go through. For the most part these transitions are unexpected, and can have a big impact on their lives.
Example 1. Some children and young people find that they have to go through, probably the toughest transition there is, the loss of a parent. The transition of bereavement could have a damaging affecgt on the child or young person, wether it is expected or not. No amount of preperation for this transition would be enough to get a child through this time without a little damage. The child would be feeling distraught, confused and angry
for some ime.
Example 2. Some children have a parent who is in the armed forces. That would mean that their parent would be away from home for months at a time, and possibly to a war zone. It does not matter if the parent is new to this lifestyle or has been involved for some years, i believe the outcome would be the same. The child would have to get used to their parent leaving possibly a couple of times a year, and this could be very tough for them. They may have to deal with the fact that their parent may never return home. This could make them very scared, clingy and they may become prone to mood swings.
Example 3. Some children may have to move away from a town that they have grown up in to live in another. This transition may prove a difficult one for the child as they have to leave their famil, friends and school. The child may be scared about moving to a place they do not know. They may also feel alone once they get there as they may not know anyone where they are. It could be difficult fo the child to settle into their new life.
