Consumer value:
• During my terms, I have consistently obtained informed consent from my patients. Some of the procedures I have consented for include: PICC line insertion, lumbar punctures, drain insertion, reversal of ileostomy, endoscopies, transfusions, general surgeries etc. To ensure I have provided the full information to the patient I provide it in written form using either the Western Australian or Queensland Health procedural consent form information for patients. I am dedicated in educating patients about services that will improve their quality of life and reduce their distress. An example of this was moving a patient’s cancer treatment to a more accessible location. On my medical term, I was taking care of a gentleman who lived in Albany, but required frequent visits to Perth for treatment. This was very difficult for the family to manage. However, the same treatment could be provided in Bunbury where his family resided. I informed them of this and organised the transition of care that aided better access and reduced the stress to the people
