Explain the influences of two predictable and two unpredictable major life events on the development of an individual

A predictable life event is an event that a person is certain will happen before it occurs. They have some expectancy of it and sometimes it can be planned. An example of predictable life events are starting school, going to college/University, marriage, pregnancy and starting work.
An unpredictable life event is something that is hard or impossible to foresee. It is something that we do not plan and can have both positive and negative consequences. An example of unpredictable life events are a life threatening illness, death in the family or losing a job. Positive events maybe those such as winning the lottery or x factor.

A predictable life event that happened in Katy Perry’s life is she has recently got married to her long term boyfriend John Mayer. This was predictable because they were dating for a long time and they had been discussing marriage for a long time.
 Marriage has had an influence on her physical development because she exercises more due to her husband’s encouragement and his athletic background.

 Intellectually marriage has meant Katy has become more mature. She now has a different way of thinking and speaking due to having a partner who influences her. Marriage has meant Katy has to also look after her husband which means she becomes more responsible; therefore influences her level of maturity.

 Marriage has influenced Katy’s development because she is more open to express how she feels for example if she is happy, sad, anxious and upset. Katy knows her husband cares about her so she doesn’t shy away from telling him how she feels. He can support her because this is a way of him fulfilling his vows. It has influenced her outlook on life and ability to express her emotions.

 Marriage has influenced Katy because socially she has become more open to talking to new family members from her husband side. She now communicates with them to get to know them better and this makes her more confident to talk with people she doesn’t know very well. Talking to the family members also helps her in communicating with fans at her gigs. Marriage has made her more sociable with the people around her. She has been influenced to change her manner, her acceptance of others and overall developing her social skills.
Another predictable life event in Katy Perry’s life is her pregnancy. It is predictable because Katy and her husband had planned for her to become pregnant.
 She now sometimes suffers from exhaustion and this has meant she has to slow down on her exercise regime. She has also gained a lot of weight which means she struggles to stand up on her own and walk for a long period of time. It has influenced her daily routine as more has been changed in her lifestyle.

 Pregnancy has influenced Katy to become more mature because she has to start looking after her baby as well as herself. Katy has also become much more responsible due to her giving up on bad habits for example eating unhealthily to makes sure her child develops well.

 Pregnancy has meant Katy is very emotional for example crying, being sad and undecided for no apparent reason. This is due to the realisation that she will become a parent and this sometimes overwhelms her. Pregnancy has also made Katy very happy because she is going to have a child of her own. Therefore influencing her perception of herself.

 Due to the stress of being a mother Katy requires a huge amount of support from her family and friends to get through hard periods of pregnancy. Katy being pregnant has meant she is going to be socially pressured into losing her pregnancy weight by her friends. However this meant that she is more confident in herself influencing her ability to stand up for herself.

Another unpredictable life event in Katy’s life is the death of a loved one. The death of her grandmother has deeply affected her.
 With the sudden death of her grandmother Katy experiences shakiness of her hands and limbs and this has been provoked by the pain she is going through. This has influenced her development because she struggles to overcome these symptoms.
 Katy has had a hard time functioning properly after the death of her grandmother. This influences her development because she sometimes feels struggles to get through the day because she feels depressed.

Emotionally Katy has gone through a period of intense shock, grief and loss which has influenced her to go to therapy to help her cope and overcome these emotions.
 Katy turns to her family and friends to comfort her and get her mind of the death of her grandmother. This has influenced her development because they help to keep her grounded and help her to move on and not get depressed.

An unpredictable life event in Katy Perry’s life is her being in car crash.
 The influence the car crash has had on Katy’s life is she got pains in her arms and legs. This influenced her development because she had to cancel gigs and meet and greets with fans due to injuries and had to stay in hospital for several weeks.
 Katy struggles to function properly at home and work because her mind always drifts back to the car crash. This has influenced her development because she struggles to go about her day to day life because it traumatised her.

 The car crash has meant Katy has been struggling with coping with the frightening memories and sometimes feels upset. This has influenced her development because she feels she is in constant danger and can never relax.
 For a short period of time Katy has felt disconnected with her friends and family because she is unable to trust other people. This is due to her being traumatised and needing time to get over the pain and feel safe again. This has influenced her to see a therapist to help her feel safe around her friends and family.
