Some people say that the Steinbrenner family, the original and current owners of the Yankees, have always taken care of their players with a pretty hefty check. On the contrary back in the early 1900's even with what was considered a “large” amount of money players still had to pick up a second job during the off season, even the star players. Babe Ruth acted in movies during the off season; Yogi Berra was a salesman, Lefty Gomez scraped sludge out of oil refineries. Fast forward to modern day, the average MLB salary is 3.5 million dollars, the minimum wage is 480,000 dollars. Those statistics are nowhere what any of the big name Yankee players make. Mark Teixeira pulled in a sum of 23,125,000 million dollars, and Derek Jeter made 16.73 million dollars all in one year, and these players sign contracts for multiple years.…

We’ve all heard complaints and stories of the outrageous amounts of money professional athletes are getting paid, and for most citizens it is disgraceful. Some of the most sought after players are earning over 20 million dollars per season, while the middle class back home cannot even fathom that kind of income. The argument that…

There are many factors in football that would cause individual players to receive different salaries. Different players perform at different rates, and would deserve different pay. The idea of choosing a separate salary for each college player has proven to be too questionable (Dabad). Evaluating a player based on their performance and giving different salaries would be unfair because of possible errors (McCauley). Another possible issue with giving college footballers a salary has to do with the different Districts football teams are composed of. Separate Districts play at different levels and would cause employers to find a different flat rate for each Districts, and then they would need to find a rate for each individual (12 Pros and Cons).
