Explain Why I Want To Honor The Civil War
One reason there are wars is when two countries are at a disagreement, like in the civil war the south and the north were having disagreements about slaves. Other times it´s about an offence like if some Korean soldier came over and shot 30 people we would probably declare war on Korea. Sometimes it´s when we get forced into a war, like when Japan bombed Pearl harbor they forced us to defend our country.
This veterans day I would like to honor my great grand father and mother who were both in the army, one as a navy seal, one as a nurse.

There are numerous long term and short term events that caused the Civil War to occur. From the long term impacts of slavery and the Missouri Compromise to the short term effects of Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Bleeding Kansas, the Civil War was caused mainly by one significant step. Although Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Dred Scott had an impact on the civil war, it was not as significant as the election of 1860. The election was the most important event because it lead to the secession of South Carolina and also because of the drastic differences in ideology between the north and the south. The Dred Scott decision would lead to the ratification of the 14th amendment.*…

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” This statement that created by President Abraham Lincoln demonstrates the necessity of the Civil War. If the United States were to remain divided, the strength of these two nations would be degraded and allow the continuation of an immoral practice; slavery. “Politicians, business leaders, newspaper editors, and others desperately sought a last-ditch compromise that would keep other states from following South Carolina...no compromise on Earth could reverse the election of Abraham Lincoln and the Southern fears of a “Black Republican” administration” (Roberts 50). As various groups split within the nation, the…

Though the Union and Confederate soldiers both fought for the victory of their nations, each side had its own reasoning and purpose for doing so. Soldiers relied on their families from home and in battle for encouragement. They wanted to fight not only for their nation, but for their family at home. They didn't want to let them down, alongside of their nation. Their family in regiments was just as beloved. They all felt the same pain and pride, therefore becoming closer to one another. They'd watch each other win and watch each other die. Backing out of it was the last thing they wanted to do and be considered a coward. Soldiers had rather die of honor than live a coward. They were all in it together and that bond with each other kept them from giving up. The leaves that were given gave those enlisted a break from the soldier life for a short period, which was a great privilege. The problem was that the leaves were abused and soldiers wouldn't come back when their time was up, therefore being a deserter. The government wasn't in control enough to do anything about the deserters.…

Wars are a way to resolve conflict, and America has had lots of wars in the past American wars have often been very controversial, the Mexican-American war especially. It started in 1821 when Mexico declared itself free from Spain, and let American move into Texas to help increase the population. Mexico suffered with that decision because of the major differences between Mexico and America (Mexico being Catholic and against slavery and America being Protestant and for slavery). It took little time until one of the sides snapped and turned into a bloody battle between the two. Like stated before, many American wars are controversial and have no reason to go to war. America was unjustified going to war with mexico because of manifest destiny, border dispute and not following the laws of Mexico.…

War can be defined as "an active struggle between competing entities. It's truly hard to tell who is right or wrong during a war. According to Bustle, article written by Madhuri Sathish, “A 2016 report from the South Poverty Law Center identified 718 Confederate monuments and statues scattered across the country, but today there are possibly up to 1,000, according to USA Today, at least 60 Confederate symbols have been removed today”, but that’s not even counting the recent removals we’ve had. Today we live in a world that has multiple perspectives on how things have turned out and why. One of the most debatable topics are the removal of the confederate monuments. People think that having these monuments are a sign of slavery, racism and hatred. Others, like myself, believe the monuments are a part of history, a remembrance of those who died, and are a reminder that this…

Although no one of my mom’s side has been a veteran, my grandfather on my dad’s side served in Korea. Thankfully he survived the war, and he told my father a lot of stories about his time overseas. My family is a big member of the Boy Scouts Troop 283 out of Wayzata Community church, and every year we do a service project on Memorial Day. This year we worked with the American Legion based in Wayzata to set flags at the American Legion Cemetery nearby. The man leading the Scouts was a veteran himself, and he got very emotional as he walked between the graves. At every name he recognized, he bent down and touched the grave, symbolizing his continued memory of his deceased comrades. After we finished placing the flags, we had a moment of silence, then saluted the cemetery. Although we didn’t recognize every name on our list, we honored all of them for their brave service to our country.…
