The ways in which you as the practitioner can provide a child centred approach and why this is important – consider the environment you provide as well as how you communicate with the child?
How do your ideas benefit the child, what will it encourage them to do/develop etc.?
Consider how a child centred approach will support all areas of the child’s development – Physical, Intellectual, Language, Social & Emotional
You could include links to theory e.g. Piaget – find out about what his ideas were about how children learn and consider how this supports a child centred approach.
Research some current initiatives such as the Reggio Emilia approach – What is this and how does it relate to the practitioner providing a child centred approach?
The A criteria has a value of up to 15 marks. To gain the higher marks you will need to include some quotations to support your answers – use the text books to support this. Think about your detail and understanding, have you given examples to support your ideas? -You could link to experiences you have had in placement. Also think about relating to some theory or initiatives (see above). Can you give points for and against e.g. why are your points good/how do they support the child? Against - what would be a problem if this wasn’t in place/how would it have a negative impact?
