However, I am confident the song has a Christian air. The song communicates to the listeners the way God perceives His people, “Priceless”. Great deals of people only see the negative things when they reflect on themselves. They don’t see themselves as God sees them, or even as their friends and family see them. The Smallbone brothers’ sing the song “Priceless” to take their listeners to a different level of understanding of our inner being, it helps us to see ourselves in a different light. In the first stanza of the song it paints a picture of a person looking into a mirror and seeing all of the flaws that lie within. The imagery that is used is so vivid it points us to the ugliness with which a woman or man may identify herself or himself. I know have at times seen myself in this dimly lit light. However, in the Psalms the scripture tells us God forgives us and as far as the east is from the west our sin is gone. If this is the case why do we continue to see the sin in ourselves? If we are in fact “in Christ” then we should see ourselves as flawless just as He sees us. “That isn’t who you are” is repeated several times in the first couple stanzas of the song. This is to confirm that what we see in ourselves is not really what makes us the person that we are. Because we are God’s children we are much more than we can even understand. The second stanza lets us hear from the person that is supposed to be talking to the listener, this happens to be God.
He is expressing that he sees a different point view. He also informs His audience that if we could see what He sees, we would understand and believe that there is more to who we are than just what we see. In the third stanza when it says “So When Its Late, You’re Wide Awake Too Much To Take” He is eluding to the fact that he sees our pain and that He is with us (King and Country). He uses symbolism when he says that his people are dressed in white, I believe this refers to His children being clean of sin. Every time He says “At The Sight Of You” right after you hear a chorus of people singing “Oh So Priceless” the song repeats this again after the words “I See It All In You". In this next stanza the writer makes it clear that we are starting over we have an opportunity to become a new person the true person that we were meant to be. And the writer then sings the chorus over and over again hoping to have the words wash over the listener. Even putting in the word “You’re” in front of the word “Irreplaceable” to make the song even more personal. The song ends with the Words “Oh so Priceless” to leave you contemplating on that
thought. It is my understanding that the writer of the song is really speaking to those who already have a relationship with God. So, to me it has deep meaning. Music has a way of getting people to think about things in a more profound way. This song makes people think about the way God sees them. Likewise, when they see the way He loves them and sees them without shame, it makes his followers love Him in a way that is unconceivable to the unbeliever. Jorge Rodriguez from Faithful Stewardship believes differently. He believes that the song is about human worship, not worshiping God. He thinks that because the song is making us think we are “infinitely precious” (Rodrigez). He believes that you should talk about God being love and how His love reflects on Him not us. However, I disagree I believe that when we believe that God thinks we are “Priceless” we reflect His “Priceless” love to all those around us. In the end we all have opinions, there are no wrong answers when it comes to opinion because we all think we are right. To someone that may have an extremely low sense of worth, this song would give them the understanding that no matter what they think of themselves God sees them differently and what He sees is the only thing that matters.
