In A Good and Happy Child by Justin Evans and in the 1982 Poltergeist movie, they use the main character as a child to show that kids are easier to be possessed in the supernatural world.
Justin Evans uses George Davies as the young main character in, A Good and Happy Child, to show that he is easier to be tricked with the demons. The more experiences George had with the demon, seemed to make him closer with him which then he called him his friend. George had his first experience with him in the shower. George shares this incident with his mom by saying, “It was just a face and no body”. After then everything began to get worse for him. “It” was the name of the demon that George was talking to. When Tom Harris and the others realized the stories George was saying, they knew that his friend was not a real person. The movie explained that the demon that took Carol Anna was another child to her, but to the others outside the spiritual world it is known as the “Beast”. Both main characters also warn the people around them what the demons are doing. George tells Tom Harris, “Leave us alone”, and Carol Anna tells her family as they just woken up, “They’re here”. Between George and Carol Anne they were tricked so badly that the demon they talked to and see is their friend to them, but as to their parents and family members it was a monster that they feared. The conversations the demons have with both main characters makes them trust the demons more than family.
George and Carol Anne were the only people in the stories who talked to and saw demons. During the book when the rest of the important characters found out about George seeing the other George they performed an exorcism on him. He had another spirit that was worse than the spirit Grace had during hers. She was another character who was performed and it was successful. During the movie they opened up a door to the supernatural world that Carol Anne was in.
Between books and movies horror stories are most likely to use a child as the main character because it’s the best way to express how scary and in fear the story really
