Reiki: An Alternative Healing Modality
Reiki is a method of healing, with the power to harmonize the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of ourselves. Many cultures from Tibetans to Greeks possessed an understanding of the nature of spirit, energy, and matter and used the knowledge for healing. Dr. Usui rediscovered Reiki in the 19th century and became the founding father of this healing modality. There are three degrees or levels of Reiki teachings to become a Reiki healer starting from the beginning to master. Reiki is used as an alternative medical treatment in conjunction to patient’s regular health care. Reiki’s energy healing technique is an excellent compliment to one’s regular health care since Reiki encompasses the whole person, spiritually, mentally, and physically. In all living things there is an ‘Energy Life Force’. The word Reiki, derived from the Japanese language and culture, when broken down (Rei) means spirit and (Ki) means spiritual consciousness, the non-physical energy that emanates from all living things. If ones energy (Life Force) is low or there is a restriction one is more vulnerable to illness. When ones energy (Like Force) is high one is less likely to become sick. Reiki healers channel this energy (Life Force) that surrounds all things and use it to heal themselves and their patients. This energy that comes from all around us is what the practice of Reiki is all about. The history of Reiki begins with various ancient cultures 2500 years ago spreading to India, Greece, and Buddha monks who were aware of the energy of living things. Tibetans and Greeks both also had an understanding of the natures’ of spirit, energy and matter while practicing an earlier form of Reiki.
