Bisphenol-a (BPA) is found in many beverage and food containers, including baby bottles. The main use for BPA is in the production of plastic items, like water bottles, computer cases, sunglasses and canned and beverage goods. In addition, this a component of this chemical is used in making the heat sensitive coating on thermal paper possible for printing. Also, polycarbonate plastic food containers are made from the chemical BPA. These food storage containers provide a durable, tough, see through and shatter free way for restaurants to store food. In addition to contributing to safety, containers made with BPA plastic provide us with a low-cost option that can be used for a long time.…

Besides, the movie Chemerical and Silent Spring also had the same ideas with this article. Obviously, ingredients in our products that we used contained lots of harmful chemicals, which could cause and damaged our health. For example, ammonia found in glass cleaner, naphthalene found in the carpet cleaner, chlorine found in bleach, BPA found in plastics, sodium lauryl sulfate found in dishwashing soap, or DDT found in several pesticides. These chemicals would damage our eyes, throat, liver, brain, and if we swallowed, it could be fatal. In the article, it pointed out that they had a proof which “vinyl toys, polycarbonate baby bottles, and food cans leak potent endocrine disruptors.”…
om the US Food and Drug administration(FDA), BPA can possibly cause hazards to foetuses, infants, and young children. The adverse effects of BPA will be explained in details in plastics No. 7.…

For several years Bisphenol A (BPA) has been used in many plastic bottles and metal based food and beverage containers and have thought to be safe. However in 2012, researchers argue that they have some concern about the potential effects of BPA on the brain, behavior, and prostate gland in fetuses, infants, and young children. The FDA is taking steps to reduce the exposure of BPA by supporting actions to stop producing BPA - containing baby bottles and infant feeding cups, developing alternatives to BPA for the linings of infant formula cans and supporting he efforts to replace BPA or minimize BPA levels in other food can linings.…
Lead poisoning has been a concern for many years. In fact, because of the affects of lead poisoning, there has been an extensive decline in its use. "Many people believe lead poisoning is no longer a threat, yet millions of homes contain lead based paint" (Heck, J., 2005, para. 1). Exposure to lead at any level is unhealthy, especially in infants, children, and pregnant women and continues to be an ongoing dilemma in this country. I read two articles concerning lead poisoning; the first article is from FineTuning, a popular press and the second article is from Pediatrics, a peer-review journal. In this paper, I will clearly summarize each article by comparing the content of both articles. In addition, I will summarize the attention to details communicated in each article. Next, I will discuss the reasons for the research, who conducted the research, the methods used during the research, and the conclusions reached based upon the research. Finally, in this paper, I will discuss what I learned about peer-review journal articles versus popular press articles.…
The partner I chose to interview was Caitlin Hanning. On Tuesday, the first day of school, we happened to sit by each other and out of laziness we chose to just interview each other instead of finding someone across the room. I found out through the interview it was both of our first year at BPCC, and we had similar majors, although while she is majoring in OT I am majoring in OTA. I also found out that her nickname is "Granny", which is hilarious to me. Why someone thought she deserved that nickname is a mystery to me, but it’s certainly unique.…
Scientists are trying to come up with ways to combat plastic pollution. A team of Japanese researchers described a species of bacteria that can break the molecular bonds of one of the world’s most-used plastics - polyethylene terephthalate, also known as PET or polyester. The Japanese research team sifted through hundreds of samples of PET pollution before finding a colony of organisms that use the plastic as a food source. Students in Ontario did a study with a filtration system they developed, attaching it to the sewage system to catch the microbeads before they entered the…

In mice and rats, ingesting high doses of DEHP interferes with the development of the male reproductive system and is linked to liver cancer. When the investigators ranked the chemicals according to how much preschool-aged children were likely to ingest, the flame retardant tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) came out on top. TCEP has been linked to cancer and brain damage in mice, but like many of these household chemicals we don't know whether it might be dangerous to…
Bottled water has become a growing problem in the United States. It has taken a major toll on the environment and is polluting the Earth. The damage that it is causing is detrimental and leaving a lasting effect. About 1,5000 plastic water bottles are consumed every second in the United States. BPA, which is a chemical used in plastic, is exposed to humans when they drink out of water bottles. Studies have shown that the BPA can lead to many negative effects in human health such as cancer, neurological difficulties, fertility, and premature labor. It affects more women than men, and about 96% of women have BPA in their bodies. Another chemical in plastic water bottles, called Phthalates, effects humans as well. This chemical affects men more…
We 're treating the oceans like a trash bin: around 80 percent of marine litter originates on land, and most of that is plastic. Plastic that pollutes our oceans and waterways has severe impacts on our environment and our economy. Seabirds, whales, sea turtles and other marine life are eating marine plastic pollution and dying from choking, intestinal blockage and starvation. Scientists are investigating the long-term impacts of toxic pollutants absorbed, transported, and consumed by fish and other marine life, including the potential effects on human health.…
It tells how a link between chemicals and the development delays in infants that were in utero when their mother were exposed. An important fact is that despite that DDT was transferred by breast milk, children who were breast feeding developed more normally even though the mother had high levels of DDT. It proves that it is not clear that DDT has ever killed anyone but they are still investigating DDT ‘s effects on humans.…
During the 19th and 20th centuries lead poisoning became common under industrial worker, being exposed to lead in smelting, painting, plumbing, printing, and many other industrial activities. In the 20th century exposure to the environment increased because of lead gasoline in motor vehicles. Other than the environmental factors like, dust, soil, the use of old ceramic cookware, paint chips and folk remedies, that expose children to lead hazards, old toys containing lead based paint and some toys manufactures in China also contribute to the risk. Children are more open to lead poisoning than adults. Young children often place toys and other objects in their mouth, ingesting dust, soil and possibly a higher level of lead. The effects of lead poisoning are also much more aggressive, as they are rapidly growing and their systems are not fully developed. Research has shown inverse relationship between blood-lead levels and cognitive function. Issues like lower IQ scores, hyperactivity, aggression, learning disabilities, visual- motor skills deficits, etc. The manufacturing and sale of lead-based paint has been banned in USA since 1978. The use of it on street paint work as well as the painting of toys.…
