In the passage “Seventh Grade” the conflict is Victor conflicting internally. He wants to be able to chatter Teresa without giving off the impression that he likes her. Also, Victor wants to astonish Teresa when Mr. Bullar wishes to see who can speak French, however he doesn’t know how to speak French, so he decides to say something that sounds French. Mr. Bullar knows what he is trying to do so he goes along with Victor.
At the end of class, Teresa talks to Victor, desiring him to teach her French because she is impressed because of how well he can speak French.
“Melting Pot” had many external conflicts due to an ethnically diverse community. Each group of neighbors found fault with anyone who was not “like” them. These uncommon differences gave each neighbor a reason to keep a distance when it came to friendships. The new-comers and old-timers, felt indifferent towards one another because each group values life differently. The old-timers do not appreciate all the changes made from year to year; whereas, the new-comers enjoy bringing in new change.
Every story has a conflict, conversely not all have winners. In the passage “Seventh Grade” Victor was conflicting with his feelings for Teresa. He wanted to be able to come closer to her, nevertheless he was too shy to talk to her. He found a way and his conflict came to success. “Melting pot” had external conflicts because and ethnically diverse community.
