Extremism Today Extremism is the act of taking on extreme views and actions to make a statement. This way of thinking seems to be on the rise in the world today. Many groups of people have gone to this level of thinking. These groups consist of very different mind sets. One mind set is the radical extremists. These types of people go out very extreme lengths to get their message out; sometimes these lengths can even be deadly. There is one group and one date that first comes to mind when thinking about extreme deadly acts. That group and date is Al Qaeda and September 11, 2001. On September 11, 2001 four planes were hijacked and three of them were crashed into building in America. Two of the planes were crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City and the other one was crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. These horrific acts caused thousands of American lives. The group that took responsibly for these hostile actions was Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda is an extremist group that is based in Afghanistan. This group is against the ideas and actions of the West. To get their idea across they used fear. Before 9/11, Al Qaeda has done many attacks including the first World Trade Center bombing, the bombing of the U.S. embassy in Nairobi, Kenya and the bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen.
These attacks did not do much to get the ideas of Al Qaeda across to America, so Al Qaeda planned something horrific; 9/11. Around 2000 they sent terrorist agents over to the U.S to learn to fly. These people were the hijackers of 9/11. This would start the biggest breakdown of national security in U.S history. All the terrorists who came over and entered the country were on the FBI terrorist watch list. The FBI knew these men where in the country, but they did little to nothing to find them. This lack of security would come back to haunt the U.S government and people later on. The effects of these attacks were very vast. This cause the U.S to beef up national security, airport
