Ezekiel And Jesus In John 3: 1-14

The Bible has a unique way of communicating a message and making it stick for all different kinds of readers, whether it be through a story or a first hand account of the conversation, there are all kinds of ways to interpret the messages told to us. After comparing John 3:1-15 and Ezekiel 37:1-14 you will find many comparisons with how Jesus and Ezekiel both tell the story of salvation. Jesus tell Nicodemus face to face the story of salvation by telling him he needs to be “born again”. Ezekiel, however, uses a story or parable to communicate his message to his audience/readers. Why does this matter? The way they can be interpreted depends on your reason and ability to use what Jesus said to connect what Ezekiel is trying to say with his story. In John, Jesus is describing to Nicodemus the importance of being born again through metaphorical and literal context. This is significant because Nicodemus replies with, “How can someone be born when they are old?” (NIV v4) and he thinks Jesus means to literally be born a second time when in reality he is talking in the spiritual sense. One other thing that is significant in this passage in John is, Nicodemus questions Jesus’ authority. This means that he does not yet know who Jesus is and shows that Jesus has not yet established his authority or made a name for himself. If a
When Ezekiel is writing, the entire passage in verses one through fifteen is from a dream or vision that he had, the events did not actually happen. This arose the question of credibility, we know Jesus is credible in his parables, but how do we know Ezekiel interpreted the dream right? How can we tell that the dream was remembered all the way?
