An easy chapter book like a picture book is a category of children’s books. Categorizing children’s books makes it easier for parents and educators to choose age-appropriate reading material for children. The stories are short in length and they are simple. In Barbara Park’s story June B. “Jones First Grader at Last”, she asserts that all children go through similar difficulties when making and losing friends. Parks supports her claims about children’s habits by having the reader jump into the life of the first grader known as Junie B. Jones. Another similar story that takes place in the life of a child is a story called “The Case of Hermie the Missing Hamster” by James Preller. The main character whose name is Theodore Jones…

The film opens at a point where a handful of longshoremen have decided they can no longer bear being exploited. Frustrated by other men growing rich and fat from his and his father’s hard work, Joey Doyle agrees to testify to the Waterfront Crime Commission about the restrictive and illegal practices taking place on the wharves. When Johnny Friendly and his gang get wind of Joey’s plans to testify, they decide to shut him up. Employing the cold-blooded tactics that have entrenched their power, the union heavies get Terry Malloy to call Joey onto the roof, with the pretext that he has one of his pigeons. Terry, a washed-up boxer whose brother Charley is Friendly’s right-hand man, was a willing participant, believing that all the gang was going to do “was rough him up a bit.” However, after Joey is thrown off the roof to his death, terry seems to feel bad and confused as he has being tricked to do something he did not intended. This relates to Elia Kazan’s situation, as a communist Elia Kazan did not like what he was in and what was happening within the party, therefore seeking for salvation, Elia ends up testifying against his colleagues , just like terry did to the mafia at the end of the film.…

Slavery began in America when the first African slaves were brought to Virginia in the 16th century. Slavery assisted in the formation, growth, and development of the United States both the north and the south. It had a huge impact on the growth of an emerging nation, increasing economic growth, urbanization, and industrialization of the United States. During the first half of the 19th century, criticism and defenses of slavery evolved, but many slave owners disagreed that slaves should be freed and given the same rights of white men. The disagreements about whether slaves should be considered equal to white men created more conflict between the North and South in the 19th century, causing the Civil war to be an irrepressible conflict.…

There is an abundance of physical violence in Devil in a blue dress, as could be expected of a crime novel. The purpose of this violence, however, seems to be more than thrilling the reader. The violence depicted also works to create a certain image of the community and city that Easy lives in. Further, it works to distance Easy from certain other characters such as Mouse or Mr. Albright; in contrast top them, Easy is disgusted by violence and prefers to avoid it when possible.…
