Ezra Faulkner's Character Analysis

Ezra Faulkner had it all. He was student council president, tennis captain, Ezra had a beautiful girlfriend, great friends all around him, great grades. He was popular and well liked by the people in his school. Ezra had status, he had all of it, until one day. Ezra had grown up believing that winning was the only way to make his father proud. So, Ezra strived hard for greatness and he did achieve it, but a part of Ezra believed something else. Ezra personally believed that every person had a tragedy waiting for them. That something bad would happen to everyone, fate perhaps. He went to a party one night expecting a great night, he had planned to make up with his girlfriend and just enjoy the night. Instead he caught his girlfriend cheating
Ezra and Cassidy run into Ezra’s childhood best friend Toby Ellicott, who was on the debate team. Toby jokingly signed Ezra up for the debate team, as did Ezra for Cassidy. Cassidy ends up helping Ezra study so that he could unknowingly compete in her place. When Ezra has his first debate tournament he and Cassidy become closer, and soon after they start to date. Homecoming season was approaching and so Ezra and Cassidy made reservations and planned their night out. The day of homecoming Ezra had called Cassidy, he was talking to her about the details of his accident, such as the Land Rover crashing into his BMW. Cassidy started acting oddly after that. Ezra got dressed up and ready for the dance later and he waited for Cassidy so that they could go together, but she never showed up. Ezra drove to Cassidy’s house to check on her, but she wasn’t there. He went out to look for her and finds her at a park which they had once had a date at. Ezra asked her why she wasn’t at Homecoming and she lied to him and told him it was because her ex had come back, and they were going to go away together. Ezra believed her, and he was
The dog ended up dying due to his old age and the fact he was bitten by a coyote. Ezra was very sad to lose his dog and good friend because he had had him for such a long time, but he overcame. Ezra and Cassidy had talked while they waited for results from the vet. Ezra had asked Cassidy why she had not come to Homecoming with him, Cassidy told him the truth this time. When Ezra had told her about the details of the accident on the phone, she realized that the person in the Land Rover was her brother. Although the accident had injured Ezra, it had killed Cassidy’s brother. She had been dealing with his loss and she couldn’t bare to have told Ezra before because her brother was the one who made it, so Ezra couldn’t do what he loved anymore. Ezra heard all this, but he still wanted to be with her. Cassidy had helped make Ezra a new and better, he told her that if he lost her then things would probably go back to the way they were, and he didn’t like that. Cassidy made Ezra realize that he made the decisions to change all by himself. Cassidy left him all alone. Ezra lost two things he loved most that day, an amazing girl and a good dog.
