forces the citizens to be happy. Bradbury writes, “He was not happy. He was not happy. He said the words to himself” (12).
In the article, “How Literature Inspires Empathy” Fassler showcases how quality literature improves humanity. Fassler writes, “Ultimately, because of the book, the Emperor stopped the punishment of lashing-so this novel played a very important role in Russian society” (Fassler). This is just one example of how literature has improved humanity. All genres of literature make people think. Literature also exposes people to different ways of thinking. Fassler writes, “Accordingly, if you are a fanatic, you will never appreciate literature” (Fassler). Literature can show a person multiple perspectives to one situation. Literature sparks a sense in the reader that causes them view life differently. Fassler writes, “It changes our vision, our understanding, the way we see. And people who are changes by literature, in turn, will be more capable to change the situation” (Fassler). Fassler personifies the importance and impact literature has on readers, and humanity has a whole.
When quality literature is taken away there are negative consequences. Quality literature is important to humanity. Literature makes people feel emotions, think about things, and question things. If there was not literature society would be full of robots as seen in Fahrenheit 451. Quality literature is essential to human functionality. However, when it is taken away it is detrimentally malignant.
