Fair Housing Speech
Good Morning Kate,

I am looking for some information today. Do your know of a Resident Action Committee or other group of tenants that meet regularly, I am looking for the contact person.
We would like to find a way to communicate with them regarding the fair housing project that we are working on. We have a survey that we would like to share with that group and we have a power point as well. This is our effort to get some local knowledge regarding fair housing.

Thank you Kate.

Word of mouth seems to be their best way to inform. Following this would be articles in the local newspaper, then social networking (Facebook, Twitter, etc). The in-house promotions do quite well with posters, flyers, etc. Although they spread awareness, they do not help as much to raise funds. In order to continuing running their programs, the organization is going to have to incorporate a new public relations campaign that can raise the interest of the public and gain the support that they need to keep providing these resources and programs throughout the duration of their…

On April 11th, 1968, president Lyndon Johnson signed the Fair Housing Act of 1968. The act’s purpose was to eliminate discrimination during the sale, rental, and financing of a house based on someone’s race, religion, national origin, and gender. This bill difficulty passing as from 1966-67 congress regularly considered a bill similar to this but failed to because of lack of support. However, when Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, president Lyndon Johnson thought a way to commemorate his death was to quickly sign a bill regarding unfair housing because of discrimination. In addition, another issue that caused this bill to be signed was the amount of families of war heroes in Vietnam who could not purchase a home because of their race.…

Addressing a group of educated civil rights lawyers about the legality of women's suffrage would require a formal explanation with details and descriptions. For instance, it would explain in depth the legality and the Congress that amended the Constitution and eventually ratification in the states. Whereas, a high school audience would not understand all the legality and terms of the law and a general explanation of the women's suffrage and its effects of changing the Constitution with the addition of the nineteenth amendment. In this way, the most significant difference in explanation would be that the lawyer (educated) group would not need a detailed explanation of the women's suffrage whereas, high school students would need an explanatory…

In June of 2007, The National Coalition for the Homeless issued several fact sheets regarding the reasons why homelessness exists, the types of individuals facing homelessness, the methods by which states define and count the homeless and what efforts have been taken to cease homelessness in the United States. In the state of Utah, studies conducted by the Utah Homeless Coordinating Committee have shown that as high as .6% of the total population is homeless, at least 15,000 people annually (Flynn, 2007). Over the years, analysis of programs designed for the treatment of the condition of homelessness has shown to be ineffective as long-term solutions. A new strategy, called The Housing First Initiative, was implemented and has shown measurable…

Diversity is not prevalent in the organization that I work for; we are a African American owned and operated company with only eight (8) employees. The building I work in houses myself and another lady and we are situated in a low income, underserved African American community in DeLand, Florida. However over the years since I have been located at this location, I have noticed a rise in the number of Hispanic individuals that visit the center. Out of the 5,000 people that we see a year, less than 5% are of Hispanic decent, because of this I will be looking into future endeavors of how we can increase this number and reach the 30,923 Hispanic residents located throughout the county of Volusia.…

The word gay, in the common school setting often has a negative connotation associated with it. “Hey, homo!”, “Hey Faggot” and “That’s so gay” are some of the most commonly used slurs, degrading the meaning of those words to something one could instead call ‘stupid’ or ‘bad’. This presents the constant negative image of a different sexual orientation. There was supposed to be equality; Equality in marriage, and equality in lifestyles between all people of all sexes and all sexual orientations. Instead, today, that is simply not the case.…
