One of the main characters, Paul, describes a family as your own personal antimatter, which is a physics concept, that describes a matter build in exactly the same structure, but contain the complete opposite atoms. They therefore seem as the same from the outside, but when you get to know them, you’ll figure that they aren’t. The families lives in a suburb with a very typical suburban environment. The suburb is called New Canaan. A reference to an land described in the Hebrew Bible. It also goes under the name “The Promised land”, which is this amazing paradise, where it floats with milk and honey. This land is a place many Hebrews strive to achieve, and is described as per-fect. New Canaan is therefore named after the perfect land. A place where nothing bad exist. Just as the parents in the movie are pretending their lives are. But they also know that there are no excitement and that it may get kind of boring sometimes.
