One of the many activities available is tubing. To tube, you get on a round raft type of object and you sit in the middle of it and ride down the river. You can see all the beautiful things around you, such as the trees, the little islands and the wildlife on the sides of the river. The trees are a brilliant green all summer and in spring they bloom with lovely white and pink colors. In autumn, they turn a bright red, yellow, and orange, lighting up the river. Some islands look eerie in winter because it is hard to see through all the branches and trees, giving the island a dark, spooky look. Other islands look warm and inviting, beckoning you in with their luscious branches full of different colored leaves. The wildlife looks beautiful, sometimes family of deer are visible; you can usually see one or two yearlings with their mother. Other times you can see chunky little groundhogs, usually during spring time. To see the groundhogs, you have to pay attention minutely because they are usually undistinguished among all the trees and the ground. Kayaking and canoeing are other options, which are both just as entertaining as tubing except they are more serene. You can put your hands in the river and sometimes feel the scaly fish rub up against your hand.…

Reba McEntire’s song titled “Fancy” arouses interest in many people because poverty is such a popular issue in today’s society. As Reba states in line 1 “I remember it all very well lookin’ back it was the summer I turned eighteen” you can tell she is a young lady, and as you continue through the lyrics you acknowledge that “Fancy”, her mother, and young sibling live in a “rundown shack” and her father had left them. She continues to tell us that her mom buys her a dress and sends her out to the streets due to her being sick and the baby being hungry. Throughout the song her mother states, “Here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down” illustrating that there’s nothing her mom can do and that it’s all up to her to make it from here. In Reba McEntire’s song lyrics and video “fancy” deep tone, vivid imagery, and figurative language is used to illustrate a young girl growing up in poverty and make something of herself.…

In a very reverent, yet quick, address, Abraham Lincoln not only honorably bestows a farewell to the soldiers who gave their lives for the livelihood of their country, but through his rhetorical usage of juxtaposition, repetition, and parallelism, Lincoln unites his speech together, and this in turn transfers into his central message of unity as a nation.…

Another reason I want to live in Hawaii is because everything is much calmer. Living in Hawaii consists of a “laid-back lifestyle” (Lovic). Life in Hawaii is peaceful. Islands function slower than any other place to live because they are “far away from many distractions” (“Pros and Cons”). Being far from distractions is calming because the “busy” lifestyle in Chicago is completely the opposite of the “laid back lifestyle” in…
