A person is driven to undertake a mission when they want to accomplish a goal or change their life which takes courage and confidence. Ernesto has what it takes to undertake a mission. Farah had a lot of confidence going on this long journey with her mother, risking her life. Then Billy definitely has it all, from being in the freezing cold to winning a gold cup with lots of money.
In Barrio Boy there is a young boy named Ernesto. Ernesto is going to a new school in America after moving from Mexico. His friends taught him a few words in English. When he gets to the school he is scared but he sees that it's not so bad. He made friends that were different from him. He accepted their differences. He learned how to read and write in English. He also learned how to say, “Butterfly.” It made him happy that others accepted him so he can move on with his mission.
In The Other Side of The Sky is a girl named Farah. Farah is trying to escape Afghanistan. When she was younger she lived in Germany. She was taking a shortcut home when she stepped on a mine and it blew up her leg. When they were escaping Afghanistan they tried to get past the Pakistan border. Farah and her mom knew it was no use because people paid a lot of money to sneak through. Later that night they met some people …show more content…
who said they would help them get across the border to Pakistan. This takes a lot of courage because Farah has a prosthetic leg. Even still, Farah is moving faster than one of the younger daughters of the other family. Farah wanted to change the way she lives and her life with her mother.
In Where the Red Fern Grows a boy named Billy likes to hunt for raccoons.
He saves up his money for two years and finally buys two Hound dogs so he can hunt. He trains them immediately but it was like they were naturals. His grandpa finds a letter in a newspaper about a coon hunting contest. In the contest the prize was a gold cup and $300. Billy won the contest, but his dogs were really hurt. Both dogs died but in between their graves a red fern grew over each one making an arch. They used the money Billy won in the contest to move to the city to get an education. Billy showed much determination, courage, love, and caring throughout the
story.
In conclusion Ernesto, Farah, and Billy all had what it took to undertake and complete a mission. Each character displayed courage, bravery, and determination. Ernesto showed bravery by going to a new school and making new friends. Farah had the courage to make it over the border to Pakistan safely. Lastly, Billy had determination to win the gold cup and the money for his family. Courage and confidence is how a person is driven to undertake a mission.
