Throughout my high school experience, the one memory I remember the most that helped me the most would have to be the time I interned at a local non-profit, Lettuce Live Well. I decided that I needed to encounter more challenges in my life; as if my life wasn’t challenging enough. Within the museum you’re exposed to over 30,000 artifacts and several exhibitions that were primarily set out for individual pieces of African American history. It made me feel like I was taking a closer encounter with history and the importance of the African American culture and life. Every exhibition had its own feel to it, and its own relevance, with each display and individual storyline, made it all the more very special. I think with every exhibition, the intention was to make people feel like they were truly once a part of that time and age. Although, it’s difficult to imagine any more of what lies in the roots of African American history and life, I…

When I arrived on the campus of Southern University where the C.E.L.T program is housed I observed the routines and skills the students had acquired. Everyone knew their role and followed the classroom’s expectations. The C.E.L.T program is an extension of the Caddo Parish School Board Special Education Department. After graduation from high school, students transition to this program which is housed on the campus of a local university. The field experience was completed between the dates of Thursday, February 14- Friday, February 15, 2013. I completed ten hours of field experience in this classroom setting assisting the teacher in differentiated instruction and reinforcement. The class was comprised of students with intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavior disabilities, all of which received instruction in one setting.…

For this fieldwork report, I had the privilege of observing my high school Radio and Broadcasting teacher. I graduated from Piper High School in 2013 and I had Mr. Jon Farley as my Radio and Broadcasting teacher for two years. Radio and Broadcasting provide students with instruction in radio broadcasting and management. Piper High School is one of the few schools that allows students to run a live radio station. According to the course syllabus, “WKPX is a real live radio station broadcasting to all Broward County and part of Dade and Palm Beach with 10,000 plus listeners. The radio program gives students the opportunity to help run a live radio station”.…

When writing a paper, reaching is a huge part in the process of writing. Published documents, books, articles, web sites, or television reports are some resources for research papers. Those are not the only thing you can use. Mike Palmquiest writes in “The Bedford Researcher” that field research, interviews, and observing are some great ways to find out more about an issue then just a published source. Field research, is going out and doing the research yourself. By experiencing your point of interest on your own you can be your own source of research. Palmquiest suggests that you should use field research if you end up in certain situations. Some of the situations include; if the published sources are not very useful, if the point of interest does not have ideas or information that challenges the issue, point of interest is currently happening, or if your line of argument could be strengthened by your own experiences. The field research method can be a great tool to help explore your topic. Field research is not the only other way to find resources, conducting an interview with someone in the field of your topic can be just as helpful. Interviews are a great way to get information from a primary source. They are usually free flowing conversations that usually start by a question then is…

For most of my adult life I believed that I just wasn’t meant to be a happy person. While I was successful in my career as a grant writer and columnist and worked hard to be a good mom to my three kids, I often had to drag myself out of bed and then force myself to do basic daily tasks like making dinner or getting the children ready for bed. I once read a poll that said 52 percent of people describe themselves as extremely happy, and my reaction was to sit back and think, Really?…
