Film Analysis: Theroux African Hunting Party

In this weeks video journal Louis Theroux African Hunting Party we learn about hunting from multiple perspectives. In this specific episode we learn about game hunting where exotic animals are raised in captivity released and then hunted down for sport. This has been a controversial issue for awhile and the film brings up multiple ethical issues that are addressed throughout the film.

Virtue ethics states that character matters above all else. Living an ethical life, or acting rightly, requires developing and demonstrating the virtues of courage, compassion, wisdom, and temperance. It also requires the avoidance of vices like greed, jealousy, and selfishness.

Virtue ethics is a controversial issue throughout the film because both sides can be demonstrated. For example virtue ethics is about living an ethical life or acting rightly which requires demonstrating courage, compassion and wisdom while avoiding greed, jealousy and selfishness. In this film it can be argued that the hunters demonstrate virtue ethics by using their wisdom to hunt the animals on the game farms. The owners of the farm make sure to train the hunters if they
For example one of the hunters speaks about how he doesn’t feel guilt or shame after hunting the animals. The hunters in the film are only considering how they are feeling while the hunting is going on and are almost numb to the after effects. It is hard to argue that the hunters are being unethical because animals are not seen as humans in everyone’s opinion therefor the argument of treating everyone with respect is null. It can also be argued that the hunters are acting ethically by using the proper weapons to kill the animals, which eliminates the suffering. The farm owners are also acting ethically because they raise and take care of the animals
