Imagine feeling like the body you’ve been given does not match how you feel inside. Imagine the pain and the confusion you acquire from not feeling like the rest of the world. Many people go through this countless times. They feel helpless and hopeless. Our society has made it so that there is only male and female, nothing else. For many people the struggle of having to be someone they’re not is astounding, it is greater than you and I.
Boys Don’t Cry, a film directed by Kimberly Price, is about Brandon Teena and his struggles as a transgender man. Brandon Teena was a phenomenal and charming person. His personality and love attracted people and especially girls toward him. He carried himself like a man, every gesture was that of a man. Unfortunately, his story does not have a happy ending.

Most of what you are exposed to is sex and violence. There have been many instances where not only transgendered people but people of color that have been targets to violent murders. However, transgender people are more likely to be victims of violence. In 2015 alone, 21 transgender people were murdered 19, colored. The hate and violence is all around us, people are scared and that fear turns to hatred. Media continues to mislabel victims by using the wrong pronouns and their birth names. They also use mugshots rather than a personal picture. The media mislabeling and using their mugshots are portraying them in a bad light causing people to think they are all criminals.
