Film review I chose to write about Pearl Harbor (2001) because it was a big event in American history and was our passage for entering World War II. It’s true that America was claiming a neutral stance before Pearl Harbor occurred, so if the events that occurred on December 7th, 1941 would have never taken place we would not have entered that war. The Japanese started bombing Pearl Harbor around 7:55 am. Therefore, the starting scenes of this movie leading up to the attacks are pretty accurate. The men stationed in Pearl Harbor were indeed still sleeping while the attack started and were not prepared at all. The US Navy ships stationed in Pearl Harbor were also all in a row and together as displayed in the movie . The Japanese had researched this prior to the attack and that is a major reason as to why the outcome of the attack was in favor to them. Also it is accurate to say that the men in the USS Arizona were still trapped in the ship. All the while with fellow navy men who were trying to get them out but were unable to do so. The USS Arizona is still there today as a memorial to all the men who died trapped within it. As for the speech displayed in the movie, Franklin D. Roosevelt is famously quoted saying, "Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy.” This film stays true by showing his response to learning about this attack and the speech he gave to the entire nation. Franklin D. Roosevelt then declared war and this is why we entered World War II. The film shows main character Josh Hartnett ‘Danny’ foreshadowing this event while the attack is still going on by saying, “I think World War II just started.” The Japanese however, had incorrectly assumed that if they could wound the US Pacific Fleet that America as a whole would be crippled and be able to severely set America back as we struggled to rebuild our self. Instead, the attack had just the opposite affect by causing the country to come together and support
