RAP Model Application The RAP Model address the leader’s ability to act, the racial dynamics of the group, and the imperatives for the leader action. The RAP framework assumes that effective outcome in any multiracial group require that leaders carry out three essential tasks. First, they must recognize the critical importance of the racial dynamics of the group and their own ability to act. Secondly, they must anticipate the source of racial tension and help members deal with these tensions. Thirdly, they must be prepared to problem solve if issues become problems. In the movie, the multiracial group displayed racial issues that stimulated problems for the group as a whole. As the leader, I would first recognize any personal biases and
stereotypes that could potentially encumber my ability to address appropriately the racial tension among the group. I would acknowledge the inevitable racial, ethical and cultural differences amid the group members. For example, most of the black men in the movie described different life experiences then those of their counter group. I would reinforce the importance of respect and appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication between the group members and myself. I would encourage members not to deviate from group norms that promotes the development of norms of mutual respect and appreciation of diversity. For example, I would specifically address the incident that occurred between Jury number seven and jury number eleven. I would initiate a group discussion about the adverse challenges immigrants often face with the intent to create a sense of sensitivity among the group members. In addition, I would establish rules such as no name –calling or disrespecting other members to eliminate superfluous racial tension among the group members.
