Final Reflections Portfolio Paper preparation

I guess I’m supposed to state what I’m going to talk about in this paper. Including my transition to college, the different learning styles, and myself discovery, and career exploration. My transition to college has been interesting to say the least. This is my third time here due to layoffs so it should be easy. But I’m a procrastinator always have been and probably always will be. I am also an active learner I like to apply what I have learned in my daily life. That’s one of the reasons I have a hard time in theory type classes. I am also a sensory learner I like facts and data type classes and am persistent about detail. As for my learning skills they are the same as they were in high school. I have had to keep reminding myself to take more time in preparing for different classes. I’m hoping to get away from procrastinating so much on things, and apply myself more at times.

What I mean is all of these self-motivators, values, interest based on the Holland code, and the Jung typology. All of this hasn’t shown me anything that I didn’t already know. I would hope that most people that attend college would already know how they learn and what values are the most important to them. And also know what career they would like to pursue. My career exploration there isn’t any. I know that I want a career in welding; I would think starting college without any direction would be wasteful not only of money but time

Learning new things has been a major interest of mine for as long as I can remember, which is saying allot, because I actually have a few memories from when I was a toddler. Throughout my early years in school, I was a straight A student who picked up on everything right away. My love of acquiring and sharing knowledge continues to grow as time passes.…

I felt sad for Mr. Gill, one of the main reasons being that I have personally been in a MVC myself which brought up the similar feelings, such as anxiety and chronic pain that Mr. Gill expressed. It felt like despite the differences in our age or situation, the pain he was expressing I could relate to directly. Another reason for feeling sadness for him was that he reminded me so much of my own father in appearance and nature. During the session, he referred to me as someone who is like his daughter and that he felt comfortable sharing information with me. I think this moment caused a shift in our therapeutic relationship, in which I felt even more inclined to show him respect and to provide encouragement on his development. The language barriers he faced in getting treatment made me feel angry towards the system. Unfortunately, MVC are common occurrences in our society thus, I imagined that the support systems would have been set in place for survivors to reduce the effects of physical and psychological harms.…

This article, “The RU-486 Abortion Pill Should Be Available to Women”, was written by Laura Fraser in 2001 for the Greenhaven Press. The issue involved with this article is whether or not the RU-486 abortion pill should be available to women in the U.S.. The conclusion Fraser came up with was yes, the RU-486 abortion pill should be available to women in the U.S., and for plenty of reasons. For example, if mifepristone becomes available, it will remove political and practical barriers so women can get abortions and physicians will not have to perform complete abortions. Also, 54% of all…

A Lesson Before Dying is a story revolving around the topic of race, identity and pride in one’s self. The people are furious, especially the African-american community, the protagonists are questioning themselves on what and who they are, as well as what they should be. Most of the main and recurring characters who side with jefferson, who has been sentenced to death, try to teach him to have dignity, and die as a man, rather than a hog as he had been compared to an animal repeatedly by those in court and himself, while at the same time these characters are having to swallow the cruelty and bitterness racism leaves behind. Grant Wiggins at the time is also having to struggle internally with the concept he had learned to ignore and accept…

Before entering college, I was terrified. I often thought that what I learned in high school was not enough for me to succeed at a university. I viewed my writing skills and just my general course knowledge, as inadequate. While this hindered me at first, after experiencing my first semester in college, I believe that I have grown tremendously, not just academically, but socially as well. Being at such a diverse school has made me a lot more comfortable and openminded about conversing or even befriending those with different beliefs than mine. Though I have made growth over this semester, there are still areas that I need to improve on. Throughout the first semester, I noticed that I still am not confident in my work and that I tend to float by, settling for mediocre grades. While my grades have made a great improvement from high school, I know that I can do a lot better and that I should be putting in more effort in my school work. After my first semester at UNCG, I have improved in a lot of areas, and in the ones, that I still struggle in, I am in the process of growing and improving in those areas, but overall, my first semester has allowed me to learn a lot, not just about myself, but about the community that I am living in as well.…
