The most important goal for my future is to obtain a satisfying career. Growing up I saw how unhappy my mother was working at a job that she hated just to make enough to provide for our family. I further understood how important a satisfying career was to me when I started working the graveyard shift as a dockworker during community college. I strongly disliked almost everything about the job including the exposure to extreme temperatures, the job’s filthy nature, the long and irregular hours, and most of all because it was unfulfilling. I was miserable with my occupation but I was dependent on it because it was lucrative and provided me with a way to support myself through college. I worked fulltime at this job for two years while also being a fulltime student until I transferred to SIU. The dread that I felt toward my job made me work harder academically because I knew that someday my hard work would amount to a career that I thoroughly…

My mid- term goal for education is to go to college. I want to go to George Mason University ever since I was a kid, I never had a good reason to, I just like it. Just in case I don’t get accepted there, I want to go to Mary Mount University because my aunt goes there. I know I will be majoring in business because I will need it to be good at my future job when I grown up. I know college isn’t like high school because you have a lot more responsibilities. I want to live in a dorm as well or move in an apartment with my friends because it seems pretty fun. My mid-term goal for employment is to be in a good paying job that will pay my bills and car insurance and that will give me some experience for my future job. Maybe shadow someone that is in the field I want to be in or be an intern for them.…

Is it smart to set goals before college? ‘‘About half of all students who start college don’t finish. Roughly one quarter of freshmen drop out before sophomore year,’’ according to Career Prep Academy. Twenty-five percent of freshmen’s in college drop out before their next year in college. Students drop out for many reasons and one of these being not setting goals for themselves, many students might believe that setting goals is creating a path to failure and unrealistic dreams, but in contrast setting goals helps students stay on the path to completing college. By setting goals and measuring their achievements, students are able to see what they have done and what they are capable of, it helps them to stay focused on their path by guiding them on what they ought to achieve in life. Seeing…

I have always set my goals in my mind only, focusing on the main goal, never considering smaller goals. Since I have become a student at GCU, this class has taught me a lot about motivation and goal setting, and how these skills work together. I like the smart goal chart, it has shed a lot of light on the task of goal setting. The chart allows me to see all goals in front of me on paper, and with the proper outline it helps me focus on one step at a time in acheiving my goals. I like the idea of setting smaller goals, and then rewarding myself as I accomplish each step on my way to accomplishing the main goal. I have learned when I take on smaller goals, and reward myself along the way, it motivates me to press on toward the main goal. I will…
