My first day in America
I remember my first day in America like it just happened yesterday! I moved to America from India when I was just 12 year old. When I started my journey to America, I was getting mixed feelings, one side I was excited to go to America I saw in movies and wanted to be a part of great American culture but on the other side I was feeling sad about leaving behind my friends and place I was born and spent my childhood. But when Pilot announced that we are about to reach to Houston in 30 minutes I got anxious and opened my seat window. When I looked Houston through plane window, cars on freeway looked like ants’ running in one line and that was really interesting to me.
When got out of plane and arrived at Houston Airport I was amazed by the size of the Airport and seeing people from different countries at one place. Once we finished with the Immigration formalities and colleting luggage we walked out toward customer exit and Customer officer started asking me questions with a smile.
“Did you bring any Mangoes?” Custom Officer asked.
“No” I replied.
“Why not? Thy have the best mangoes” Custom officer said.
“Yes but I did not know that I can bring something like that!” I said.
“Yes you are right! You cannot bring mangoes with you!” Officer replied.
Then we walked out towards Arrival Gate entry and my aunt and my cousin were already out there waiting for us. They helped with our luggage and we set in car and I started talking to my cousin on our way.
“Why are we driving on wrong side of the road?” I asked
“This is a correct side in America! I know it is different from India” He replied
“ Oh, that is interesting, glad I know that now!” I said
Then the whole way to my aunt’s place, I was looking at the perplexing freeways and tall buildings in downtown. When we reached to neighborhood, it was interesting for me to see planned communities with row houses. I never seen
